Career

[edit]

In 2012, Calafato premiered For Profit, a solo theatrical performance inspired by his work as an admissions counselor at a for-profit college. The show explores the ethical tensions within the for-profit education industry and has been cited in national media coverage.[1]

According to The Plain Dealer, the play follows a character named "Aaron," an advisor who enters the field with optimism but becomes disillusioned by systemic practices targeting at-risk students.[2]

The play garnered national attention and was featured on NBC affiliate WKYC, where Calafato described the industry’s practices as targeting students from low-income backgrounds due to their eligibility for federal subsidies.[3]

The Akron Beacon Journal also noted that the play was a vehicle for public discussion, quoting Calafato as asking, “Can we find a way to work together to fundamentally change the way we fund education?”[4]

In 2018, Calafato launched 7 Minute Stories, a weekly podcast featuring autobiographical and extemporaneous short-form narratives. The show has been noted for its personal tone and accessibility, with episodes exploring themes of memory, family, and cultural identity.[5]

The podcast has led to collaborative projects with national organizations, including Glassdoor.
