Trevor McCaffery
[edit]Trevor McCaffery is an Australian former professional rugby league footballer who played for the Newtown Jets during the 1983 NSWRFL season. McCaffery played five-eight in two games for the Newtown Jets in its last season in the NSWRL completion. He is player number 751 on the List of Newtown Jets players who have played first grade rugby league for the Jets.
Early life
[edit]McCaffery was born on 21 June 1965[3]) to Francis (Frank) McCaffery and Patricia (née Andrews). McCaffery is the maternal grandson of Bob Andrews (rugby league) who was the first captain of the Parramatta Eels club when they entered the NSWRL completion in 1947. McCaffery grew up in the western Sydney suburb of Wentworthville and began his rugby league career playing for his local Primary school club side at the age of four. While attending Parramatta Marist High School,[4] McCaffery played for the Australian Schoolboys team in 1982.[5]
Playing Career
[edit]McCaffery made his début for Newtown in the Round 22 1983 NSWRL season loss to the Eastern Suburbs Roosters coming off the reserves bench. Newtown coach Brian Moore (rugby league) subsequently selected McCaffery at five-eight to play in the Jets Round 26 win (9-6) against the Canberra Raiders at Orana Park, Campbelltown.[6]

[edit]A little-known fact about McCaffery is that he was the last five-eight to play first grade for Newtown.[7][8][9]
