Heidi Health is an Australian health technology company providing artificial intelligence (AI) based medical scribe software aimed at automating clinical documentation for healthcare professionals. The company's software transcribes patient consultations into clinical notes, case histories, and other medical documents.[1][2][3] Founded in 2019, Heidi Health operates internationally and provides its services across multiple countries.[2][4][5]
History
[edit]Heidi Health was founded in 2019 by vascular surgical resident Dr. Thomas Kelly and co-founders Waleed Mussa and Yu Liu. Initially launched under the name Oscer, the company originally focused on clinical training tools for medical professionals. In 2021, the company rebranded as Heidi Health, shifting its focus toward comprehensive AI-powered clinical documentation services.[2][6]
In March 2025, Heidi Health secured AUD $16.6 million in Series A funding, led by venture capital firm Headline and supported by investors including Local Globe, Anthology (Menlo Ventures and Anthropic), HESTA, Possible Ventures, Archangel Ventures, and Blackbird Ventures.[4][6][7] This funding round aimed to expand the company's AI capabilities, with planned improvements such as automated pre-chart summaries and integration with clinical guidelines.[1][5][7]
As of 2025, Heidi Health has raised a total of USD $26 million from international investors and reports supporting over one million patient interactions per week, with a focus on reducing clinicians' administrative workloads.[1][6][8][9]
Technology
[edit]Heidi Health’s primary offering is an AI-powered medical scribe that leverages large language models (LLMs) and machine learning (ML) to transform clinical encounters into structured documentation. This application automatically generates various clinical documents, including:[2][3][5][6]
- Medical assessments
- Referral letters
- Treatment plans
- Discharge summaries
- Billing documentation
Integration and security
[edit]Heidi Health integrates with electronic health record (EHR) platforms such as Epic Systems, Athenahealth, Best Practice Software, MediRecords, and MedicalDirector.[1][4][9][10] It maintains compliance with privacy and security standards, including HIPAA (U.S.), GDPR (EU), Australian Privacy Principles, and NHS regulations (UK).[3][11] Heidi Health also holds certifications such as SOC 2, ISO 27001, and ISO 9001.[3]
