Dzubukuá (Dzubucua), or Kiriri, referred to by the community as Kariri-Xocó,[3] is an extinct and revived[4] Karirian language of Brazil. It is sometimes considered a dialect of a single Kariri language. A short grammatical description is available.[5] Since 1989, the community has revived the language. The Tingui-Botó people claim to use Dzubukuá in their secret Ouricuri ritual,[6] having presumably switched from an original Wakoná language.
It was spoken on the São Francisco River islands, in the Cabrobó area of Pernambuco.[7]

Vowels
[edit]Vowel sounds are presented as [i, ɨ, u, e, o, a] and [œ] which is written out as a double vowel oe. Nasal vowels are pronounced as [ɐ̃, ẽ, ĩ, õ, ũ] along with nasalized double vowels oê and aê, not pronounced as diphthongs, but as nasalized monophthongs [œ̃, æ̃].[7]
