Bill Ackman, Herbalife
[edit]Hello again, ARandomName123. We were in touch last year at Talk:Pershing Square Capital Management, in particular surrounding the Herbalife section at that article. With that context in mind, would you mind taking a look at Bill Ackman#Herbalife short? At it reads now, it is unbalanced and misleading in large part because it lacks information about the US Government's findings about the company which validated Ackman's thesis, but importantly the section is over-detailed and WP:UNDUE for a biography of Ackman, at 10 paragraphs. Could you help trim the section to an appropriate length, possibly similar to the two paragraphs we have at the Pershing Square article? Another option to consider is to WP:SPLIT the longer Herbalife story into its own article. I welcome your thoughts and would appreciate your involvement. Thank you, FMatPSCM (talk) 15:29, 6 March 2025 (UTC)
- @FMatPSCM: Hi, I'm quite busy with midterms currently, and throughout next week. Feel free to propose edit requests on the talk page, and if they are still unanswered when I'm done, I will take a look. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 03:48, 7 March 2025 (UTC)

Question from Nikhil Kumawat116 (12:24, 8 March 2025)
[edit]Hello, I'm the founder of a film production company. I want to create a wiki page for the company, could you please guide me? --Nikhil Kumawat116 (talk) 12:24, 8 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Nikhil Kumawat116: Hi, your first step would be checking if your company is notable enough to qualify for an article. Are there independent news sources with significant coverage of your company? Alternatively, has your company had a major role in major films? ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 03:46, 12 March 2025 (UTC)

Short Story
[edit]There once was a girl named Jadie and she was 13 she went school and at school she learned about the solar system. Jadie too the train home and it was kinda a weird ride because 2 people were fighting and 4 students were getting high
Everycoolthing (talk) 00:54, 13 March 2025 (UTC)
So, you got all A's, right?
[edit]Okay, maybe that's too much pressure. :P But I hope your tests went well! SilverserenC 20:26, 14 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks! Maybe not in the A range, but should be good enough! (except for Calculus, power series killed me).
- Anyways, tracking for URA pretty much completely collapsed for some reason a few days ago, so I've completely paused it. I'm mostly free now, so I should have it up and running again by the end of the weekend. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 13:09, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- Despite me hating it, certain math has always been really easy for me for some reason, so i breezed through calculus. Physics, on the other hand, was way too abstract for me (and it didn't help that the teacher I got was the head of the math department who on a whim decided to teach a math class that year and his teaching method was terrible since he acted like all of it was easy and we should just understand everything like he does). And don't even get me started on organic chemistry...
- It feels like the bot/tracker was purposefully waiting for you to be busy so this could happen. :P The timing was incredible. SilverserenC 16:03, 15 March 2025 (UTC)
- I wish I could breeze through calculus lol. Derivatives and integration I'm fine with, but I like can't wrap my head around series and stuff. Not looking forward to organic chemistry in the upper years.
- Yea, it was unfortunate. I took a look at the tracker today, and honestly I have no clue what's going on with it. I turned it on again, and it was non-functional. I left for a few hours, came back, and it was working normally again for some reason?? And then it ran into that doublecount rewind error again after another hour or so? Anyways, turns out I was relying on an unmaintained Python library for some reason, so hopefully it should be good once I rewrite it to work with a maintained one. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 03:50, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
- Well, at least you managed to figure out what was causing the problem. SilverserenC 04:52, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Silver seren: Back up and running. I set it back to before I stopped it, so there should be nothing missing. I did accidentally delete the old logs, so I had to manually readd the old data back in from the leaderboard history, so if there are any edits missing (there shouldn't be, but I may have missed something), please let me know. Cheers, ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 22:36, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
- At least for now, it looks right. Including the yearly version. SilverserenC 23:16, 16 March 2025 (UTC)
- It's experiencing the rewind error on and off again. It should avoid double counting, but might drop an edit here and there. Spent quite a bit trying to figure out what was wrong with my code, until I stumbled upon phab:T388290 and phab:T388294. Turns out it wasn't even a problem on my end. Didn't even need to switch Python libraries, but it's probably for the better. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 04:43, 17 March 2025 (UTC)

Question from Buttersuwant (21:21, 18 March 2025)
[edit]Hello Juxlos, I am Butters. In writing something to be published how necessary is it to add citations within certain aspects of the topic? I understand it's needed on presenting facts but when things that are undecided but leaning towards could be facts. How important at that point to express that it might not be absolute yet? There are many subjects I have seen that speak on things as factual when certain studies have made no such conclusion or claimed as such. But may lean towards the conclusion as factual. I think it's very important how we define what a word means in its usage and ideologies that mislead into said conclusions that might not be factual. --Buttersuwant (talk) 21:21, 18 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Buttersuwant: Hi, when writing, you should ensure your text matches closely with the source. Undecided or leaning towards facts should not be included, unless they can be explicitly supported by a reliable source. If a source makes no comment on a conclusion, do not draw your own conclusion. If a source says they are not sure, we should reflect the same level of uncertainty. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:57, 19 March 2025 (UTC)

However, the IMLA did not authorize Native American lease-holders to cancel leases, nor establish any "regulatory authority" once projects had begun. The DOI negotiated below-market prices and failed to enforce environmental protections and "royalty compliance".
It's not that bad though, so just adjust a few words and it should be good. Everything else seems fine to me! ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 03:01, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
Question from Jeff Goldberg-96 (17:52, 30 March 2025)
[edit]On my edit of the "List of Georgetown University alumni" where I added alum David G. Greenfield it appears that the dates and citations aren't centered and lined up equally next to the other dates and citations but rather its off...
Thanks in Advance! --Jeff Goldberg-96 (talk) 17:52, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Jeff Goldberg-96: Fixed! Just needed to add "| style="text-align:center;"" in front of the non-centred tables. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 18:04, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- @ARandomName123 Thanks so much! I'm fairly new to Wikipedia so I still use the Visual Editor, so is there a way to do this on the Visual Editor? If not how can I learn to use the actual editor.
- Thanks in Advance! Jeff Goldberg-96 (talk) 18:13, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Jeff Goldberg-96: I usually use the VE during normal editing as well, however it isn't very good at anything other than standard writing. I don't believe there is a way to do this on the VE. Formatting of tables is usually better done through the source editor. Usually, just check what the row above yours did, and copy in the formatting text. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 18:20, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, how can I "copy in the formatting text above" of the column that I'm editing/creating.
- Thanks Once Again! Jeff Goldberg-96 (talk) 18:28, 30 March 2025 (UTC)
- @Jeff Goldberg-96: Taking the edit you were trying to make as an example, go into source mode, and find where you would like to insert the new entry. The row above yours would be
- |-
- | {{sortname|Frank|Gaffney}}
- | style="text-align:center;"| 1975
- | style="text-align:center;"| SFS
- | President and founder of the [[Center for Security Policy]]
- | style="text-align:center;"| <ref>{{Cite web |title=Frank Gaffney |url=http://www.nndb.com/people/870/000048726/ |access-date=2015-10-11 |website=www.nndb.com}}</ref>
- Copy and paste that immediately below itself. Then, just remove replace the stuff applicable to Frank Gaffney with the information for your portion (i.e. change the name, year, reference, etc.) Leave the other formatting elements (i.e. style, "|" characters) intact. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 18:37, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

Hi, I don't know if this is too specific of a question or where I'm supposed to ask, but I'm trying to figure out what the requirements are for a game to be added to the list of "Versions" at the bottom of the SameGame page. Would I be able to add minigames from larger games to this list, like Wardrobe Challenge from goSupermodel for example? Sorry if there's somewhere else I'm supposed to be asking this. --Peannaire (talk) 19:51, 3 April 2025 (UTC)
- @Peannaire: Hi, I believe that you should only add it if the minigame has been covered by reliable sources, like news articles. Also, it might depend on the page, but the Versions section may not be the best place to put it. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 23:08, 3 April 2025 (UTC)

[edit]HI! How are you? :) I'd like to create a page about the magazine ODDA. How that can be done? --ODDA global (talk) 12:39, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
- @ODDA global: Hi, I'm good, you? As for the page, do you have any independent and reliable sources covering ODDA? This could be news articles, journal articles, or coverage in books. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 14:55, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
- Hello :)
- Im the general coordinator of the publication and right hand of the founder, so I have access to everything as we produce it all ODDA global (talk) 17:25, 4 April 2025 (UTC)
- @ODDA global: I meant like sources that are not produced by you. If there isn't any external, independent coverage of your magazine, any article on it would probably be rejected or deleted. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 19:49, 5 April 2025 (UTC)

Broken links on book pages?
[edit]Kind of weird, I was reviewing another book page on AfC today and a bunch of the links were broken.[4] Nbd, because I found other sources and added them so the draft looks fine now. I also wanted to find working links for the original sources but I couldn't so I pulled them out. It reminded me a lot of the Sin eater/lord of mysteries sources and made me wonder if this is AI or something? Hope this isn't just gonna be a thing. BuySomeApples (talk) 07:34, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Yea I was thinking along those lines, possibly AI. Normally it could just be linkrot, but none of these appear on archives, and the access date shows that they should have been accessible. I have been noticing them a bit more often now though, and a while ago I draftified two articles (Draft:Matthias Schlitte and Draft:James Gillman) which had sources that looked good but didn't exist. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 22:06, 29 April 2025 (UTC)
- Next time I might just ask, although there's no telling if most people would fess up to that lol. BuySomeApples (talk) 20:11, 30 April 2025 (UTC)
- I tried asking in an ambiguous sort of way for both Mr.fakepolicy (who's apparently now blocked) and the creator of the two articles mentioned above, but none of them have responded. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 01:40, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from PeterShaw1999 (09:11, 1 May 2025)
[edit]Hi mentor! Just to comment that I was trying to create a set of pages about astronomical data providers but it looks the reviewers do not see interest on those. Maybe to me, as astronomer who uses those services every day to do astronomical discoveries, the matter is quite relevant and I think this is shared by the astronomical community but I doubt now to continue this line of contribution. Too much effort for nothing :( --PeterShaw1999 (talk) 09:11, 1 May 2025 (UTC)
- @PeterShaw1999: Hi PeterShaw! That's unfortunate, but somewhat common. If you'd still like to contribute, there's always the already existing pages on astronomers. There's also Wikipedia:WikiProject Astronomy, for people interested in that area. Cheers, ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 18:15, 1 May 2025 (UTC)

Question from Crmclaurin1 (11:03, 4 May 2025)
[edit]Hello Liance, Just reviewed some of your past conversations. I am considering submitting an article about a living person. Many of the references I have are to older ( 1975-2000 newspaper articles. Can these older newspaper article be cited as references. Also , are government website information such as licensing and incorporation information be used as references. Thanks, Craig --Crmclaurin1 (talk) 11:03, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Crmclaurin1: Hi Craig! I'm not Liance, but to answer your question, yes, older newspaper articles are fine, and can be cited. If possible, government website information should be replaced with articles, books or other types of secondary sources. Government websites, or other public records, that contain personal details can not be used at all. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:13, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- Thanks, that is helpful Crmclaurin1 (talk) 23:05, 4 May 2025 (UTC)
- Hello,
- Quick follow up question. When submitting an article do you have to upload the newspaper article or just the citation. I just thinking it may be hard to verify older newspaper articles without the actual article being made available for local newspapers that may not be accessible via the web. Crmclaurin1 (talk) 12:10, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- @Crmclaurin1: Hi, just the citation should be enough, but uploading the article would be helpful to whoever wants to verify the citation in the future. Do you have a newspaper article in mind? Editors have access to a number of newspaper databases that may have it. ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:14, 8 May 2025 (UTC)

Hello, I'd like to get a page setup for the rich history on the company i work for, acclaim handling. I'm of course aware of the conflict of interest rules and would like to do everything above board and full disclosure. I'd really just like to make sure people know of Acclaim in the history books and want to create a full accounting with accuracy of Acclaim's history and its significance in the local areas around essex. I'd also like to tie it to any wikipedia pages about essex and its rich history. Any help would be greatly appreciated! --ACoolDuck (talk) 16:16, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- @ACoolDuck: Hi, ACoolDuck! I'm glad to hear you're aware of the COI rules. To get started, you first have to determine if your company is notable enough for its own article. This is typically shown through significant coverage from independent, reliable, and secondary sources, like books or some news articles. Do you have any that meet this criteria? If so, you can begin your article through the Wikipedia:Article wizard. If you have any questions, feel free to ask! Cheers, ARandomName123 (talk)Ping me! 16:45, 8 May 2025 (UTC)

- like these? ACoolDuck (talk) 17:01, 8 May 2025 (UTC)
- @ACoolDuck: The majority of these articles are considered trivial coverage, and do not count towards notability. Per the guideline, examples of substantial coverage that would generally be sufficient to meet the requirement:
- A news article discussing a prolonged controversy regarding a corporate merger,
- A scholarly article, a book passage, or ongoing media coverage focusing on a product or organization,
- A documentary film exploring environmental impact of the corporation's facilities or products,
- An encyclopedia entry giving an overview of the history of an organization,
- A report by a consumer watchdog organization on the safety of a specific product,
- An extensive how-to guide written by people wholly independent of the company or product (e.g. For Dummies).
