Declination of proposed Category:Television shows about Adam and Eve

[edit]

Thanks for still looking at my proposals and those of others. I regret that your question on if more articles can be listed went unanswered due to rejection with no further replies. It is likely that mythical progenitors Adam and Eve, foundational figures in the sincere beliefs of a majority of humanity preceded only by The Deity, would have numerous depictions that span all art and tech including television. The intent was to make a category akin to those for Paintings, Sculptures, and Films in that format. A cursory search before the proposal was posted found several times more relevant pages than were listed. If fine, please write where to post this notion with a longer article list, so that it might pass review. 24.47.39.190 (talk) 03:08, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

You are welcome to create another request at Wikipedia:Articles for creation/Categories. As I stated in my declination, the shows you listed were not specifically about Adam and Eve, and thus don't fit the category. I don't believe that such a category is necessary or helpful due to this lack of pages to be categorized, but if you can show otherwise I would be happy to accept the request. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 03:14, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
My plan is to reapply later so I am not seen as spamming the category request page. Still, Cultural Depictions of Adam and Eve has at least a dozen non-categorized television works, with more elsewhere. Some are fully-made presentations or adaptations, yet others have a more minor or fleeting appearance. Many depiction articles include a creation if a mythic or historic person is on a single page or minute or corner. This is an attempt to have a Television article of the original troubled couple like that for Films. I can discuss any germane article if asked. 24.47.39.190 (talk) 04:53, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
You are welcome to recreate the request whenever you'd like. I do want to restate that "shows about" is not the same as "cultural depictions of", and as you mention, minor appearances would not count. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 12:58, 7 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I am glad resubmitting is allowed. For the sake of reviewers, I will retry later. Even so, some Cultural Depiction categories have little relevance. As example, the gory silly novel Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter notes Elisabeth Bathory yet John F. Kennedy has pages, but only she is categorized. There are also trivial Adam and Eve film listings, so my select television articles will be better. 24.47.39.190 (talk) 06:59, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not sure I follow the meaning of your third sentence, but Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter is clearly a cultural depiction of Abraham Lincoln, and not just a tiny mention. Regardless, let's leave this conversation for your new request. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 13:53, 8 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Declination of proposed Category:Religion in fantasy fiction

[edit]

Sorry for further talk timeline clutter. After writing for months, I am chagrined this proposal failed unadvised, save for a heckling anon. It groups work of both fantastic and religious inspiration across faiths, formats, languages, and generations. Neither subject is minor, yet the idea mimics and parallels the Religion In Science Fiction category, which is many years old with hundreds of articles including several subcategories. Also all of Star Wars, especially at the start, is really a religious adventure fantasy in philosophical action sci-fi clothing. Hope for feedback, thanks. 24.47.39.190 (talk) 05:04, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see how the comments made by 65.92.246.77 (talk · contribs · WHOIS) were "heckling", I think they made valid comments about the request. Subcategories of Category:Fiction about religion are more suitable for the pages you listed (and shouldn't be added to both per WP:OVERCAT), and I don't see them perfectly fitting into this new category. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 17:26, 13 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

See Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Articles for creation#AfC redirects becoming articles retain the AfC banner - would you be willing to implement this? — Qwerfjkltalk 18:20, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for bringing this to my attention! I'll respond to the mentioned thread. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 20:47, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Newslachival Double Reacharound

[edit]

Hey Eejit, being notified of the Scripts++ newsletter being archived twice on your page drew me here. Potentially of interest: I actually personally use a similar archiving configuration that separates newsletters and discussions, except I let ClueBot do all the work since ClueBot (though not Sigmabot) supports multiple archival configs on the same page:

{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis
| age=2278
| archiveprefix=User talk:Aaron Liu/Notifications
| archivenow=<nowiki><!--Template:,<!-- Template:,<!-- User:,<!-- Message sent by,Template:Contentious</nowiki>
| maxarchsize=75000
| format= %%i
| header=<nowiki>{{aan|image=[[File:Breathe-evolution.svg|60px]]|prefix=Notifications }}</nowiki>
| nogenerateindex=1
}}
{{User:ClueBot III/ArchiveThis
| age=720
| archiveprefix=User talk:Aaron Liu/Archive
| maxarchsize=75000
| minkeepthreads=2
| format= %%i
| header=<nowiki>{{aan|image=[[File:Breathe-system-file-manager.svg|60px]]}}</nowiki>
}}

Not saying you should also do that since IIRC ClueBot has some small drawbacks compared to Sigmabot, but I thought it would be interesting. Aaron Liu (talk) 21:46, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Oh interesting, what a helpful feature! Thank you very much for letting me know about that, I might use it depending on if I am able to catch most newsletters by changing my name in mass messaging lists. Sorry my changes pinged you, that's a bit annoying! ~ Eejit43 (talk) 22:05, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
It's alright it was just two archival notifications. (Plus it showed up in the normal blue notice bar and not the alerts bar.) Aaron Liu (talk) 00:58, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Change to displaytitle-editor

[edit]

Hello, I was wondering if you could make a small adjustment to your displaytitle-editor script. Currently, when I use the script to add the {{DISPLAYTITLE:}} magic word to a redirect page, the script places the magic word at the top of the page, which removes the redirect (as seen here). Would it be possible to modify the script so that it places the {{DISPLAYTITLE:}} magic word after the #REDIRECT line instead? Thank you for your time and help! Xoontor (talk) 12:02, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

This has now been implemented, thanks so much for the suggestion! ~ Eejit43 (talk) 18:42, 26 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed category: United Kingdom and Ireland literary prizes

[edit]

Hi, I saw that you denied my request for this new category. It was my first go at requesting a category, so I may not have done a good job of it. May I explain further why I think it is needed? The guidance suggests that awards should be categorised by both home country and scope. There are a number of literary awards whose scope includes both the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, but there is currently no category to identify them. Some significant literary prizes use this scope, including those I mentioned in the request - Costa Book Awards, Goldsmiths Prize, Republic of Consciousness Prize. To label these as "British" is insufficient, as it fails to distinguish them from literary awards that exclude the Republic of Ireland, such as the CWA Gold Dagger Award). This can cause misleading information to be propagated when Wikipedia is used as a source of information. It also means that there is no easy way to interrogate Wikipedia for a list of awards that fall within this category. Perhaps you could advise on how I could adjust the request to have a better chance of success?

Thank you for your time. User:FictionWitch User talk:FictionWitch FictionWitch (talk) 09:15, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

@FictionWitch Thank you for providing more information! I first want to note that as you are autoconfirmed, you have the ability to create categories yourself without the need to go through AfC. However, you should still make sure you properly understand the guidelines for creating categories so that these categories aren't deleted immediately.
What "guidance" are you referring to? If there is a precedent for this overlap, then that would be helpful to know about. However, per WP:OVERLAPCAT and WP:OVERCAT, I still believe that this specific distinction isn't helpful. Category:Irish literary awards exists, and can be used for awards covering the Republic of Ireland. As "Irish" and "British" aren't overlapping, pages could be categorized as both the aforementioned category and Category:British literary awards, without the need for another category that would duplicate information. ~ Eejit43 (talk) 16:37, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@Eejit43 Thanks for that explanation about overlapping categories. The guidance about scope/home country was somewhere in the help pages, but I can no longer find it. I will follow your suggestion and use the Irish literary awards category in addition to the British literary awards category. Thank you. FictionWitch (talk) 17:10, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you

Thanks for fixing that Papal visits to the United States edit I had made. I got distracted with a IRL matter and wasn't as precise as I should have been.
