To report an error in content currently or imminently on the Main Page, use the appropriate section below.
- Where is the error? An exact quotation of the text in question helps.
- Offer a correction if possible.
- References are helpful, especially when reporting an obscure factual or grammatical error.
- Time zones. The Main Page runs on Coordinated Universal Time (UTC, currently 22:18 on 3 May 2025) and is not adjusted to your local time zone.
- Can you resolve the problem yourself? If the error lies primarily in the content of an article linked from the Main Page, fix the problem there before reporting it here. Text on the Main Page generally defers to the articles with bolded links. Upcoming content on the Main Page is usually only protected from editing beginning 24 hours before its scheduled appearance. Before that period, you can be bold and fix any issues yourself.
- Do not use {{edit fully-protected}} on this page, which will not get a faster response. It is unnecessary, because this page is not protected, and causes display problems because this is not a talk page. (See the bottom of this revision for an example.)
- No chit-chat. Lengthy discussions should be moved to a suitable location elsewhere, such as the talk page of the relevant article or project.
- Respect other editors. Another user wrote the text you want changed, or reported an issue they see in something you wrote. Everyone's goal should be producing the best Main Page possible. The compressed time frame of the Main Page means sometimes action must be taken before there has been time for everyone to comment. Be civil to fellow users.
- Reports are removed when resolved. Once an error has been addressed or determined not to be an error, or the item has been rotated off the Main Page, the report will be removed from this page. Check the revision history for a record of any discussion or action taken; no archives are kept.

[edit]- We report that the 1999 tornado was 135 m/s, but Wurman et al. 2021 as well as the lead of our article says 143.6 m/s. This seems like it should be changed to match our article since Wurman et al. 2021 ("The FARM (Flexible Array of Radars and Mesonets)") seems like the most reliable authority on this. I don't think we directly cite it in the article, so we definitely should. TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 01:02, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- As this point in time, the lead does not list the top wind speed in metres per second; it gives it in miles and kilometres per hour. Checking with the convert template, this comes to 321 mph or 143 m/s. Ref 1 confirms that. If there are better sources for this, TheTechnician27, then please don't hold back and amend the article. I shall meanwhile amend the blurb. Schwede66 02:50, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yeah, I think Wurman et al. 2021 which lists 321 mph is currently the best source we have. That being said, I should note Wurman et al. lists 321 mph, so with that measurement it's actually much closer to 143.5 m/s. Sorry about that! Still, though, it's seemingly more accurate than it was before; much appreciated. TheTechnician27 (Talk page) 02:56, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- See also Tornado records citing a more recent source also by Wurman with 2013 El Reno tornado being given a range up to 336 mph or its equivalent in m/s. The claim for Moore shouldn't be stated definitively to be "the fastest winds on earth" at all as that isn't stated in the source (even if it's clearly true), but could reasonably point to Tornado records or Mobile radar observation of tornadoes with a claim "among the fastest winds recorded inside a tornado". Departure– (talk) 15:52, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- Note I replaced the sources for the DOW for the Greenfield tornado to the new sources as the FARM recently migrated from the University of Illinois to the University of Alabama, but the underlying content is the same. In neither source cited to the "fastest winds on earth" claim in the Moore article exists a claim for that - fastest in a tornado perhaps, but on Earth is synthesizing information. Departure– (talk) 16:01, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
- I think the easiest fix is to change the blurb to:
1999 – A Doppler on Wheels team measured some of the fastest winds recorded inside of a tornado, at 143.6 m/s (321 mph; 517 km/h), in the F5 tornado near Bridge Creek, Oklahoma.
- This fixes both of the issues I raised. See also the anchor inside Tornado records to section #Highest winds observed in a tornado. Departure– (talk) 16:07, 3 May 2025 (UTC)
