SPI table bot now supports IP ranges

[edit]

I made a change to the bot that updates the SPI case table (Mz7 (bot)) such that it will now properly add cases named under IP ranges into the case table. This was broken before now. I tested SPI helper on a case named under an IP range, and it seems to work. I also made a change that will make the bot more resilient if it encounters even stranger case names, as happened here. I am now just realizing that this change will probably soon be made irrelevant by the imminent rollout of temporary accounts next month (going off of the deployment timeline mentioned here). Welp, enjoy the next few weeks of this feature, haha. Mz7 (talk) 05:30, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Ah ok, someone pointed me to [1] which says "later in 2025" for the English Wikipedia rollout of temporary accounts. Mz7 (talk) 06:16, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

How to request a quick check user

[edit]

Hi, I'm looking for advice on how to complete the checkuser section at the bottom of the page. There are a group of new editors vandalising the same articles. Rather than completing a new SPI, which I don't think is necessary at this time, I thought a check user might be beneficial as a first stop. I'm just not sure what info I would need to complete a request. See [2]. Thanks in advance. Knitsey (talk) 17:53, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Quick check is meant for cases not involving sockpuppetry. If you think the accounts are being operated abusively by one person, the thing to do is to file an SPI report. Sir Sputnik (talk) 18:13, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thank you for taking time to answer, much appreciated. Knitsey (talk) 18:15, 27 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
There used to be instructions there, but it looks like they were accidentally removed last week [3]. I have restored them now [4]. Mz7 (talk) 00:19, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
