Raid

[edit]

On 6 November 2003 at 5 AM, Indonesian forces led by Colonel Gustav Agus Irianto attacked subdistrict Yalengga, Jayawijaya Regency.[2][3] The Indonesian forces besieged the Yalengga district and forced the OPM companies to start the assault, however the Indonesian forces was success to delayed the OPM attacks to Wamena.[4] A About 50-60 Indonesian personnel stormed the OPM headquarters. The Indonesians killed the most wanted OPM leader (Yustinus Murib), captured much OPM weaponry and the OPM documents that mentioned the plan of assaults on Wamena.[5]

After the raid, the body of Yustinus Murib was beheaded. The Indonesian government claimed the raid benefited the civilians who were being killed by the OPM. After the raid, OPM forces continued to retreat before the Indonesian military forces.[6][7][8][9]
