From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The ASA Transcontinetal Series, also known as the ASA National African SuperSeries was a one-off racing series owned and run by the American Speed Association that hosted a singular race, the Vrystaat Free State 500 at Phakisa Freeway on Janury 31st, 2010. John Mickel, a British-born racing driver would be the ultimate winner of this race. As features of the race, 1986 Daytona 500 winner, Geoff Bodine would race, he started the race from pole position but was forced to pit with 2 laps to go after running out of fuel, leaving the previously mentioned John Mickel and Toni McCray to the 2nd and first place spots respectively. Rick McCrayanother american driver who competed in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series and the Winston Cup Series from 1978 through 1999 was also featured in the race, finishing 4th.[1] It is unknown if he is related to Toni McCray. It was announced that a second race at an undetermined racetrack would be run in at a unannounced date in 2011, but the series never gained traction beyond that despite the 11,000 fans that attended the Free State 500.[2]
