Originally founded in 1948 under the name "Pinellas Park Public Library" by the first president of the library association, Mrs. Madalya Fagan, it changed locations twice before its current address, at 7770 52nd St.[1] It at first stood in the old pump house in Triangle Park, whilst the present location was built in 1969.[1] Like how many smaller scaled libraries historically began, most of the work was voluntary until the library was under the city of Pinellas Park's jurisdiction in 1963 and the paid hiring of librarian Marjorie Trimble.[1]
The current name originates from Barbara S. Ponce, the City of Pinellas Park's Library Director and later the Community Services Director.[1] Under her the library was redesigned and changed names in 2001, leading to its expansion from 15,000 square feet to 30,972 square feet.
This library is one of the several involved in the Pinellas County Library Cooperative.
