Cookie McCakeface, or Cookie McCakeFace, is a restaurant in Portland, Oregon, United States. The business operates from a food cart and serves a variety of large cookies with fillings such as marshmallow, Nutella, and Oreo.
Description
[edit]Cookie McCakeface operates from a food cart in Portland, Oregon. Inspired by the owner's interests in baking and cosmetics, the business name was suggested by her brother to incorporate the word "cookie" and the cosmetics industry term "cake face".[1] The owner describes the cookies as "thiccc".[2]
Cookie McCakeface serves baseball-size cookies that weigh approximately half a pound each. Fillings include marshmallow, ganache made from Nutella, and Oreo cookie.[1] There are seven permanent varieties and additional rotating (monthly)[3] options.[1] The owner describes the signature chocolate chip cookie (called the "CCC") a cookie "who thinks she is the top of a muffin".[4] The "Choc Blocker" has chocolate and peanut butter. The "Cookie Meister" is a cookies and cream-inspired cookie with edible googly eyes and an Oreo in the center.[1] The "Midnight Society" is a s'mores-inspired cookie with dark chocolate,[4] marshmallow, and graham cracker. Among specials is the "Eat the Rich", which has five types of chocolate and a Nutella ganache interior. Cookie McCakeface has a gluten-free and vegan option.[1]
History
[edit]Sarah Ahlvers is the owner. She started the business in April 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic. Ahlvers initially used the kitchen at her brother's bar Vault 31 in Vancouver, Washington, and sold cookies via food delivery service DoorDash.[1][5] She purchased a food cart in 2021 and operated from the Springwater Cart Park (formerly known as Cartlandia) until May 2023, when Ahlvers relocated to the Cart Blocks in downtown Portland's Ankeny Square.[1]
Ahvers has promoted the business by sharing ASMR-style videos.[4]
Reception
[edit]In 2024, Cookie McCakeface was named the Portland metropolitan area's best food cart in The Oregonian's annual Readers Choice Awards.[1][6] In the Portland Mercury's overview of the ten "best bites" of 2024, Andrea Damewood recommended the "CCC", the "Cookie Meister", and the "Midnight Society" varieties. She also opined, "There are mass produced versions of this kind of cookie, which has become the rage these days. But TRUST when I say they're oversweet yet bland comparators to Cookie McCakeface."[4] Karlina Valeiko selected the "CCC" for Oregon in LoveFood's 2024 overview of the "tastiest" cookies in each U.S. state.[7]
