A Digital Token Identifier.[1][2][3] is a global identification standard[4] for digital tokens[5] and is defined by International Organisation for Standardization’s ISO 24165[2]

The Structure of a DTI

[edit]

A DTI is comprised of a code which is a random and unique set of 9 alphanumeric characters; and a record of data relevant to the subjected token including its technical attributes[5] and is held within the Registry of DTI[6].[7]

For example:

DTI 4HNFSH646 represents UBS 2.33% 14/11/2025 bond on SDX private blockchain.

What are the benefits of using DTIs?

[edit]

What can be allocated a DTI?

[edit]

All fungible digital assets represented on DLT

Security tokens - a digital asset that represents ownership of a real-world asset, like a company, real estate, or commodities. Security tokens are a type of cryptocurrency that are similar to traditional investments like stocks and bonds.[8]

Asset-referenced token or stablecoins - a type of cryptocurrency where the value of the digital asset is supposed to be pegged to a reference asset, which is either fiat money, exchange-traded commodities (such as precious metals or industrial metals), or another cryptocurrency.[9]

E-money token - Electronic money (e-money) is a digital form of money that can be stored on devices like computers or cards. It can be used to make payments, similar to cash.[10]

Cryptocurrency - a digital currency designed to work through a computer network that is not reliant on any central authority, such as a government or bank, to uphold or maintain it.

Utility Token - a blockchian-based token that provide access to a product, service, and/or offers utility within a specific blockchain ecosystem.[11]

Digital Token Identifier Foundation

[edit]

The Digital Token Identifier Foundation (DTIF)[3][12] is a non-profit division of Etrading Software, a global provider of technology-led solutions designed to assist financial institutions.

What is the role of the DTIF?

The mission of the DTIF is to provide a goldensource, a single reliable source of data, for the identification of digital tokens. The DTIF maintains and issues Digital Token Identifiers (DTI)[3] to increase transparency, interoperability, uniqueness, consistency, and scalability in the digital space.[7]

DTI Standardisation: ISO 24165

[edit]

The Digital Token Identifier Foundation (DTIF) allocates unique identification of digital tokens to provide a single source of reference data which is based on the standards that were set by the International Organization for Standardization in ISO 24165.[1][2]

ISIN and DTI

[edit]

An International Securities Identification Number (ISIN) is a unique 12-character alphanumeric code that identifies a security. ISINs are used to identify stocks, bonds, options, and more.

DTI: Token Level Identifier

[edit]

Global standard for all fungible digital tokens[13] providing guaranteed uniqueness of the digital token based on objective, verifiable technical data by allocating a unique identifier.[5]

ISIN: Asset Level Identifier

[edit]

Global standard of financial and referential instruments helping organisations meet regulatory requirements and improve transparency, stability and efficiency having being allocated a unique identifier.[14]

  • Infrastructure in place to accommodate and process ISINs

DTI/ISIN: Complementary Identifiers

[edit]

Complimentary, interoperable identifiers, with different functions but intrinsically linked, that work together to bring more transparency to the digital asset market.[15]

The DTIF Official Marketing Website

[edit]

The DTIF marketing website[6] presents all the utilities the users need for them to learn about the organization including what the DTI Foundation is, the goal, the mission, who the members of the Product Advisory Committee[16] are, and how the users can contact the foundation. Furthermore, the marketing website presents users the backbone of the organization which is the token registry. The users are presented with our token registry search (the tool in which the users could use to search our repository for tokens registered in our system), the way for users to download the individual JSON file of the tokens and of the whole registry, and the way for users to submit a token request for us to process.[6]

DTIF Marketing Website Notable Features

[edit]

Token Registry - the backbone of the DTI Foundation. The DTI Registry houses the technical data of each tokens that are registered. These data can be accessed from the marketing website of DTI.[6]

DTI Allocation - where users are able to submit DTI Allocation requests in order for the foundation to process the registration of a token.

DTI Application Programming Interface - users are able to utilise the DTI API in order to access the registry for both UAT and Production data.

Fee Model - as the Registration Authority for the ISO 24165 aims to increase the transparency in the digital asset space through the creation of a core ISO reference data set, the DTI Foundation allocated and maintains DTIs on a cost-recovery basis.
