ISO/PAS 8800 (Road vehicles - Safety and artificial intelligence) is a Publicly Available Specification (PAS) of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO), which aims to reduce the risk of artificial intelligence in safety-related systems in road vehicles. The specification thus joins other standards in the technical product safety of road vehicles and defines the use of artificial intelligence. The ISO/PAS 8800 specification was published in December 2024.[1]
Content
[edit]The specification describes the following areas for AI systems in road vehicles:
- Derivation of AI safety requirements for AI systems based on safety-related properties of specific AI technology
- Consideration of the quality and completeness of available datasets (for the AI system)
- Safety analysis of AI systems
- Development of measures to prevent and mitigate safety-related errors
- Verification and validation techniques
- Assurance argument used for safety of the system
Relationship to other norms
[edit]The specification is linked to other norms:
- The specification is related to ISO 26262, which aims to achieve a reasonably low risk of an electrical/electronic fault in the system.
- In addition, the safety of the intended functionality of the overall system can be achieved by applying ISO 21448, although AI systems are not explicitly considered in this standard.
Terms and definitions (e.g. triggering condition) are taken from both standards and used in the context of AI systems.
