Md. Sibgat Ullah is a senior Bangladeshi police officer and the current Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Bangladesh Police. He holds the rank of Additional Inspector General of Police (Addl. IGP) and has received both the President Police Medal (PPM) and the Bangladesh Police Medal (BPM) for his distinguished service.
Early Life and Education
[edit]Md. Sibgat Ullah was born in Bangladesh and joined the Bangladesh Police through the Bangladesh Civil Service 15th (BCS) (Police) cadre in 1995.
Career
[edit]Md. Sibgat Ullah began his career in the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, serving as Assistant Commissioner of Traffic (ACMT) and later as Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Protection.
He was appointed Superintendent of Police (SP) in several districts, including Pirojpur, Mymensingh, Narayanganj, and Feni. He also served as Commanding Officer (CO) of the 5th Armed Police Battalion (APBn).
At the Police Headquarters, he served as Assistant Inspector General (AIG), UN Desk, overseeing peacekeeping deployment coordination. He was later appointed Director (Admin) at the Police Staff College, Bangladesh.
He joined the Industrial Police as Superintendent and subsequently rose to become its Deputy Inspector General (DIG) and then Additional IGP, eventually serving as the Chief of Industrial Police.
On 7 May 2025, he was appointed as the Chief of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) by the Ministry of Home Affairs.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][8]
Career Challenges
[edit]Despite his eligibility and strong service record, Sibgat Ullah was reportedly deprived of promotion for nearly 15 years during the Awami League government’s tenure (2009–2024). Following the end of that political era, he rose to top leadership roles within the police force.
