Radio Akadera is a Polish academic radio station with a long tradition, operated by the Bialystok University of Technology in Białystok, Poland. The station is located in the university's Assistant Hotel building. It broadcasts on the frequency of 87.7 MHz, covering the city of Białystok and surrounding areas within a 50 km radius.
The programming focuses primarily on academic life but also addresses urban issues, especially those concerning young people. The content is created by a professional staff along with student journalists from various universities in Białystok. The current editor-in-chief is Agnieszka Sakowicz-Stasiulewicz. For 18 years, the position was held by Krzysztof Połubiński.[1]
History
[edit]The station began as a small campus radio operating from Krakowska Street in Białystok, later moving to the "Alfa" dormitory at Zwierzyniecka Street. In 1984, a professional, well-equipped studio was established in the Assistant Hotel building, although broadcasting remained limited to a cable network.
In the early 1990s, the state broadcasting monopoly in Poland was broken, leading to the emergence of many new stations. Due to the legal vacuum at the time, the first private stations, including Radio Akadera, broadcast without official licenses. Between 1992 and 1994, the station operated illegally on the 68.5 MHz frequency.
Since 1994, Radio Akadera has been a fully licensed radio station. In 2003, it joined the Polish Academic Radio Stations network.
