Pandit Shailesh Bhagwat[1][2] (born 1958) is a renowned Hindustani classical music artiste from India. He is the senior most disciple and the cultural heir to Ustad Bismillah Khan. And, he is often credited with carrying forward the legacy of shehnai after Ustad Bismillah Khan. Shehnai is a woodwind instrument from India that has a body like flute and has a metal circular funnel at the end. It looks similar to a saxophone. Its significance was initially as a folk instrument played primarily by musicians schooled in traditional and auspicious ceremonies. Pandit Shailesh Bhagwat has given his life's 57 years in the pursuit of elevating shehnai's status and continuing its legacy at the concert stage.
