Stephen Ellis

Stephen Ellis is an American actor known for his work in film, television, and theater. He gained critical recognition for his performance in the 2015 short film A Reasonable Request, which premiered at both the Sundance Film Festival and South by Southwest (SXSW), and has since been cited by The Irish Times[1] and Vice[2] as one of the best short films of the decade.

Early life and education

Ellis was born in Fort Worth, Texas. He studied at the National Theater Institute and later graduated from Kenyon College, where he received the Paul Newman Award for Acting.

Career

Ellis began his career on stage, appearing in a number of critically acclaimed productions. He performed in The Coward at Lincoln Center, an Obie Award-winning play written by Nick Jones, where his work was highlighted by The New York Times[3] and TheaterMania[4] for its emotional depth and comic flair. Other stage credits include Thinner Than Water with LAByrinth Theater Company, Different Words for the Same Thing at Center Theatre Group[5], and Going to a Place Where You Already Are at South Coast Repertory.

His feature film debut was in the DreamWorks comedy Delivery Man (2013), starring opposite Vince Vaughn[6]. He later appeared in Hail, Caesar! (2016) by the Coen Brothers, and The Lears alongside Bruce Dern.

Ellis starred in the short film A Reasonable Request, which received widespread praise. Short of the Week[7] commended Ellis for his comedic timing and delivery in the film.

On television, Ellis has appeared in shows for networks including Disney, Audience Network, YouTube Red, and The CW. Additional credits include You're the Worst, Abbott Elementary, and General Hospital.

He has also appeared in more than 20 national commercials, including three that aired during the Super Bowl.

In 2016, he was named one of the "10 Rising Actors Who Could Be the Next Big Thing" by WhatCulture[8].

Personal life

In 2024, Ellis married McKee Floyd. The couple live in Highland Park, Los Angeles.
