[edit]

Steven Daubioul (born 1985) is a Belgian convicted serial killer, known as the "June 20 Killer" or "Le tueur du 20 juin", who killed 3 women between 2005 and 2013 in Lodelinsart, Hainaut. His nickname comes from the fact that he commited most of the murders around June 20.[1][2].

Biography

[edit]

Steven Daubioul grew up in Lodelinsart. He was unemployed and spent time playing video games and smoked joints. He was described as nice by locals.

Murders

[edit]

On June 20 2005, 19-year-old Daubioul commited his first murder. He raped and strangled 57-year-old Concetta Tarabella in her appartment[3]. DNA was found at the scene but due to lack of evidence and no matching suspects, the case went cold.

In June 2010, he killed 50-year-old Martine Vandeput. Her decomposed body was found in July in her appartment and her death was initially believed to be natural.

On June 20 2013, Daubioul stabbed twice 67-year-old Emilia Liétard in her appartment. She was rushed to the hospital but she was pronounced dead. Daubioul lived in the same building at the time of the 3 murders.

Arrest, trial and imprisonnement

[edit]

Investigators conducted a DNA sample of all the men in the building, which linked Daubioul to the murders of Tarabella and Liétard, which happened in the same building. He was arrested in October 2013 and charged for the murders. Investigators also began investigating the death of Martine Vandeput. Police exhumed her body in 2014 and the legist could determine she was strangled. Daubioul was also charged with this murder.

Steven Daubioul was tried before the Hainaut Assize Court in October 2015. He was also accused of raping a 5-year-old child he occasionnaly babysat because of videos found on his computer. It was determined Daubioul couldn't control his sexual urges.

Steven Daubioul was ultimately sentenced to life imprisonment and placed at the disposal of the Court of Application of Sentences for a period of 15 years[4]
