Draft:Sur Rabab

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Sur Rabab is a historical instrument created during the 1880s in Bengal during the British rule. Ustad Abdullah Khan of Senia Shahjahanpur Gharana created this instrument by blending Sursingar with Seni Rabab in the workshop of Harendra Sil in Kolkata. Since it's an amalgamation of the Sursingar and Seni Rabab, its name was being kept as Sur Rabab by Khan. In appearance it looks like a bigger Sarod.

Later his son Ustad Md Ameer Khan and grand disciple Pt. Radhika Mohan Maitra played the instrument till the creation of Mohan Veena in 1948.

It was revived by Shree Joydeep Mukherjee in 2024.
