Chip LoCoco is an American author and attorney from New Orleans, Louisiana. LoCoco's novels delve into themes of music, Sicilian heritage, and cultural history.[1]

Early Life and Background

[edit]

Chip LoCoco was born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana. His father, Vincent T. LoCoco (1934–2017), was an Estate Planning Attorney in New Orleans. His mother is Lynda Goodier LoCoco (1938), a retired Nurse. LoCoco’s upbringing in a Sicilian-American household fostered a love of music, storytelling, and history, which became central themes in his novels. LoCoco pursued a career in law, specializing in estate planning, while maintaining a passion for literature and history.

Writing Career

[edit]

LoCoco’s debut novel, Tempesta's Dream: A Story of Love, Friendship, and Opera (2003), earned the Pinnacle Book Achievement Award for Historical Fiction, drawing critical acclaim for its vivid storytelling and musical themes.[2]

His second novel, A Song for Bellafortuna, marked the beginning of the Bellafortuna Series. It was awarded the B.R.A.G. Medallion[3] and was a finalist in the William Faulkner Writing Competition.[4]

The series continued with Saving the Music, which won the American Fiction Award in Historical Fiction[5], achieved recognition as the No. 1 Top Rated Novel on Amazon UK, and a positive review from Kirkus.[6] The novel was optioned by Producer, David Franco, in April, 2025, with Alana Valentine, as Screenwriter and Nadia Tass, as director.[7]

The final installment, Sicilian Melody[8], explored the post-World War II resurgence of the Sicilian Mafia, further solidifying LoCoco’s reputation as a historical fiction author.

In 2023, LoCoco published The Devil’s Jazz, a mystery novel set in New Orleans. Departing from his usual Sicilian settings, this work incorporates the city’s vibrant musical culture into its narrative.[9] It was named listed as a Honarble Mention in the William Faulkner Literary Competition. [10]

[edit]

LoCoco graduated from Loyola Law School in 1993, and went into the private practice of law at Many & LoCoco, his father's New Orleans Law Firm which has been in existence since 1967.[11]
