Vivian Valin Akello is a Ugandan medical doctor and surgeon.[1][2][3] She is a gastro-intestinal surgeon specialist at Mulago hospital.[1][2] Akello is the president of the Society of Uganda gastrointestinal and endoscopic surgeons.[2][4][5] She is a member of Rotary club Sonde.[1]
Education and background
[edit]Akello was born in Arua district, grew up in Oyam district and studied in Gulu.[1] She studied her primary education from Mary Immaculate primary girls' school in Gulu.[1] She studied her ordinary level education from Sacred heart secondary school and advanced level education from Trinity college Nabbingo.[1]
Akello joined Makerere university where she enrolled for a bachelor of medicine and bachelor of surgery and a masters of medicine in general surgery.[1][6] She was a fellow in minimal access surgery at Medanta hospital in India where she specialized in gastrointestinal surgery.[1][6]
Career
[edit]Akello started her career as an intern student at Rubaga hospital and Lira hospital. She started working as a doctor at Nagalama hospital in Mukono.[1] She worked at Hoima hospital as a general surgeon before being transferred to Mulago national referral hospital as a gastrointestinal surgeon.[1][7] Vivian works at Unihealth medical center Victoria hospital and St. Francis Naggalama Hospital as a general surgeon.[8] She worked for four months in Sierra Leone as a surgeon in Pujehuan village.[1]
Vivian is also a lecturer at Kampala international university Uganda.[9]
