Zeelo is a global TransitTech company that provides technology-enabled shared transportation services for employers, schools, and operators in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and North America. Headquartered in London, Zeelo offers fully managed shuttle programs designed to improve access to workplaces and schools through efficient and sustainable transport solutions.[not verified in body]

The company was founded in 2016 by Sam Ryan and Barney Williams, who previously co-founded the ride-sharing platform JumpIn, later acquired by Addison Lee in 2014, before being joined by Dani Ruiz. Zeelo combines routing software, data analytics, and managed operations to optimize routes, reduce emissions, and support workforce and student mobility.[not verified in body]

History

[edit]

Zeelo was established in 2016 in London, initially operating as a business-to-consumer platform offering event transportation services. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the company shifted to a business-to-business model, providing transport services for essential industries including logistics and manufacturing.[citation needed]

In 2021, Zeelo expanded into the United States and now operates in over 20 states.[1] In February 2024, Zeelo acquired Kura, a UK-based school transport management platform, broadening its presence in education transport.[2] In August 2024, Zeelo announced it had delivered over 10 million rides.[3]

Zeelo previously operated in South Africa but sold its South African operations to LULA, a local mobility startup, in July 2024 to concentrate on core markets.[4]

Services

[edit]

Zeelo provides transport management software and fully managed shuttle operations tailored to workforce and student needs. Its services aim to address challenges such as employee retention, site accessibility, recruitment, and sustainability targets.[citation needed]

Notable clients include Dwight School London,[5] Tesco,[6] and Jaguar Land Rover.[7]

Operations

[edit]

United Kingdom and Ireland

[edit]

Zeelo partners with over 450 coach and bus operators across the UK and Ireland to deliver transportation solutions for shift workers, schools, and corporate offices, including home-to-work shuttles, last-mile services, and home-to-school transport.

United States

[edit]

Zeelo entered the US market in 2021 and operates across more than 20 states.[8] In the US, Zeelo partners with a network of motorcoach, minibus, and limousine operators to provide employee and school shuttle services, optimized for cost efficiency and rider experience.[citation needed] Its US headquarters is located in Boston, Massachusetts.

Sustainability

[edit]

Zeelo operates carbon-neutral journeys through a carbon offsetting partnership with Cnaught.[9] The company is also working to transition operator fleets to electric vehicles in partnership with infrastructure providers such as Zenobe.[10]

Zeelo's shared transportation model contributes to a reduction in client emissions by lowering reliance on single-occupancy vehicles. Details of its environmental initiatives are included in Zeelo's published impact reports.[11]

Funding

[edit]

In August 2023, Zeelo raised $14 million in Series A follow-on funding, led by FlatzHoffmann, to support its expansion in North America.[12][13]
