Helmut Julius Geuking (*January 16, 1964, in Coesfeld) is a German politician and was the federal chairman of the Family Party of Germany from 2017 to 2024. From 2019 to 2024, he was a Member of the European Parliament.

Life and Career

In addition to his main profession, he founded the outpatient care service Humanitas Münsterland in 1994 as well as the association Humanitas Gemeinschaft e. V., which focus on the care and support of elderly and ill people.

Political Career

In his early political career, Helmut Geuking was first a member of the SPD and later became involved with the Electoral Alternative for Labor and Social Justice (WASG) in the Coesfeld district. After the merger of the WASG with the Left Party, he founded the party Social Justice – NRW in 2008, which he led until it dissolved in 2012. In the same year, he joined the Family Party of Germany.

Starting in 2012, Geuking was the chairman of the North Rhine-Westphalia state association. In 2017, he took over as the party's federal chairman, a role he held until 2024. From 2014 to 2020, he was also a city council member in Billerbeck.

Member of the European Parliament (2019–2024)

In the 2019 European elections, Geuking entered the European Parliament via the Family Party's sole mandate. He was initially a member of the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR) group but switched to the European People's Party (EPP) in 2021.

In Parliament, he was a full member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs (EMPL) and a substitute member in delegations for relations with Ukraine and the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.

On February 5, 2024, Helmut Geuking resigned from his mandate for health reasons. His son Niels Geuking succeeded him as the lead candidate.

European Election 2024

In the 2024 European elections, Geuking again stood as the lead candidate of the Family Party of Germany. The party again won one mandate. Shortly after the election, Geuking declined to accept the mandate for health reasons, whereupon his son Niels Geuking again took over the office.
