Mistake in the taxobox

[edit]

Swainson was born after 1758. There must be a mistake. --Pablo.ea.92 (talk) 21:00, 9 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Subspecies

[edit]

Are D. o. oryzivorus and D. o. albinucha widely accepted as valid bobolink subspecies? If so, it should be included in the article. --Pablo.ea.92 (talk) 03:55, 8 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I did some digging, and it turns out those subspecies haven't been officially recognized for over a century. Carnassis (talk) 19:56, 28 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Call

[edit]

More info? Maybe a link to a recording.

The call is supposed to be a long one, so ‘bobolink’was formerly a nickname for a talkative person. Fron a dictionary of Edwardian slang, ‘Passing English’:

Bobolink (American). A talkative person, from being like a bird of this name. Abbreviation of Bob o' Lincoln. This is the way somebody translates the bobolink's libretto : ' Chink a link, chink a link, tink tink, tinkle tootle, Tom Denny, Tom Denny, come pay me, with your chink a link, tinkle linkle, toodle loodle, popsidoodle, see, see, see ! ' making not the slightest pause from beginning to end.

Citebundle

[edit]

Hello @Procyonidae: The citebundle makes it more understandable which is the WP:PRIMARY and which is the WP:SECONDARY. Invasive Spices (talk) 31 October 2022 (UTC)

I'm not sure it does but regardless these are both secondary sources. The Borlaug speech is referencing the Graham book and the Graham book cites "visitors to southern shops" in the late 19th century (pg 23). I'll add the page number to the ref in the main article. The only other reference to bobolinks in Man's Dominion is about Emily Dickinson (pg 30). Unless I'm missing something here. - Procyonidae (talk) 18:39, 31 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
You're not missing anything. I didn't verify. I simply assumed I remembered. Anyhow I think a citebundle would make it clearer that they are grouped together but it isn't causing trouble. Invasive Spices (talk) 3 November 2022 (UTC)

Conservation Status

[edit]

The species is listed as Least Concern in the infobox, but the body text states that bobolinks are at risk throughout their range. Is this conflicting information, or does it just indicate that they were judged to be a Least Concern species as of their most recent IUCN evaluation?
