Somebody needs to clean up the citations on this page. It's a mess and makes the article hard to read.

Added "essay-like" tag to this article

I applied this tag because this article reads like a college paper. Frankly, I think that applies more than the already-existing "original research" tag, as there are at least a number of original sources used as citations in this article as of today (Sept. 2, 2023). It's a bit prolix all right, but the subject is interesting. Would it be possible to call in specialists in the subject to make it terser, more actual-example-rich and less talky? Pageturners (talk) 07:44, 5 May 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I took a crack at condensing and focusing the introduction. I'll revisit in a few days to see about later sections. It is an interesting subject, but it may end up warranting a merge with a broader sociological article. Haven't touched or evaluated the references.
