Comment: Please do not submit multiple copies of drafts. It does not increase the likelihood that one of them will be accepted into article space, and annoys the reviewers. It is likely to be seen as an effort to game the system, and may result in the drafts being nominated for deletion. Robert McClenon (talk) 17:53, 27 April 2025 (UTC)

NAU! is an Italian company involved in the design, manufacture, and sale of eyewear, including prescription glasses, sunglasses, and contact lenses. Established in 2004 in Castiglione Olona, Italy, the company operates a retail network of mono-brand stores.[1][2] The company utilizes recycled materials in some products and states that it allocates a portion of its profits to social and environmental projects.[3]
History
[edit]NAU! was founded in 2004 in Castiglione Olona, Italy.[1] Founders included Monica Salvestrin and Fabrizio Brogi.[2][4] According to Salvestrin, the company intended to apply retail principles from other sectors to the eyewear market, such as frequent collection releases.[2][5]
The company expanded its retail presence within Italy and subsequently internationally. Products are distributed through its network of mono-brand stores.[1] In 2018, NAU! began opening stores outside Italy, with locations reported in Spain, Mexico, India, and the Middle East.[1] By 2023, the company reported operating over 170 stores, including outlets in Italian airports and train stations.[3] In 2023, NAU! entered a partnership with consultancy 2.0 & Partners to develop its presence in the travel retail market.[3][6]
In 2014, the Italian newspaper La Repubblica mentioned NAU! as one of several companies considering a listing on the AIM Italia stock exchange, although the listing did not occur.[7]
Business model
[edit]NAU! introduces new eyewear collections frequently, reportedly every 30 days.[2] The company manages its operations vertically, from design to retail.[1] Its stores employ opticians and optometrists.[2]
Products
[edit]NAU! sells prescription glasses, sunglasses, contact lenses, and related accessories. New eyewear models are released periodically.[3] In 2022, the company introduced NAU!Me, a line of customizable eyewear produced on demand, using a 3D configurator with virtual try-on functionality.[1][8]
Sustainability initiatives
[edit]NAU! has implemented several environmental measures.
Use of recycled materials
[edit]The company began using recycled materials in eyewear production circa 2007.[9] In 2009, it introduced products made partly from recycled plastic from its manufacturing process.[1] These collections were certified by CSI Cert.[1] The company states that some frames contain recycled plastic, including plastic derived from recovered marine waste.[9] In 2021, NAU! launched its Ocean Plastic collection, with frames containing polymer derived partly from recovered plastic bottles.[1]
Carbon offsetting
[edit]NAU! participates in carbon offsetting. For 2022-2023, the company supported a reforestation project in Uganda.[1]
NAU!Reloove
[edit]In 2024, NAU! opened a store in Como, Italy, named NAU!Reloove, selling refurbished secondhand eyewear collected from its Italian stores. The items undergo a refurbishment process.[9][10]
Environmental certification
[edit]In 2011, NAU! obtained ISO 14001 certification for its environmental management system.[11][12]
Corporate affairs
[edit]NAU! states that it reinvests a portion of its annual profits (reportedly 10%) in social and environmental projects.[1][3] The company received an award related to franchising from Az Franchising in 2010.[5]
Stores
[edit]As of 2023, NAU! operated over 170 stores. Most are located in Italy, with others in countries including Spain, Mexico, India, and the Middle East. Some stores are situated in airports and train stations.[1][3][9]
