The Wright Countour is a planned range of diesel and hydrogen fuel cell-powered coaches manufactured by Chinese bus and coach manufacturer King Long and marketed for sale in Europe in a joint venture with Northern Irish bus manufacturer Wrightbus. The name is a revival of the previous Wright Contour body produced during the mid-1980s.[1]
Design
[edit]The Contour coach is powered by a Cummins X11 engine mated to a ZF EcoLife transmission, providing a power output of 400 brake horsepower (300 kW). Initially available as a two-axle single-deck coach in both left- and right-hand drive configuration, seating 55 passengers and including an in-built toilet, Wrightbus plans to market a tri-axle 'Hydroliner' coach in 'overdeck' double decker form, capable of seating 84 passengers and capable of a claimed overall range of 1,000 miles (1,600 km).[1]
The standard diesel Contour is configurable with a wheelchair lift to achieve Public Service Vehicle Access Regulations (PSVAR) compliance, maintaining a luggage carrying capacity of 7 cubic metres (250 cu ft); without a lift in either standard or PSVAR-ready configurations, this is increased to 9 cubic metres (320 cu ft).[1]
Production of the Contour is to take place at King Long's assembly plant in Xiamen, Fujian, while Wrightbus will take delivery of the completed coaches for pre-delivery inspections.[1]
