Sarban Chowdhury

Sarban Chowdhury (born 18th June,1992) is an Indian visual artist and designer working with installation art and conceptual art. Born in Kolkata, he studied visual arts at the prestigious Govt. College of Art & Craft, Kolkata specialising in Ceramic Art & Pottery. His practice of working with clay is an everyday learning process where he relates to coping with minor and major failures in life. Ceramics as a medium teaches him to gaze at life from a different standpoint. Sarban’s research explores around ecosystem centric values , geopolitical influences and psychoanalysis of the human mind in relation to their surrounding factors . Everything that he examines, observes and experiences around him somehow seeps into his subconscious mind and eventually reflects in his work. He has been invited to artist residency programs at Taoxichuan Ceramic Art Avenue in Jingdezhen China, 54th International Ceramic Sculpture Symposium in Boleslawiec Poland, International Wood fire Ceramic Symposium in Gavrilov Russia, Art Ichol in Maihar, Piramal Art Foundation in Mumbai, Museum of Goa, 8th Uronto Residential Art Exchange Program in Bangladesh, Lalit Kala Akademi in New Delhi, Uttarayan Art Foundation in Vadodara et cetera. Some of his major exhibitions include Quimo Gallery in Jingdezhen China, 13th Namwon International Ceramic Artist Invitation Exhibition at Namwon in South Korea, “Yuva Sumbhava” at Shridharani Gallery in New Delhi organized by Raza Foundation, “Amano Iwato” at Apre Art House in Mumbai, Taoxichuan Spring & Autumn Art Fair in Jingdezhen China, “Bhu- Tatva” at Emami Art in Kolkata, Jaipur Art Week, “Singing the Body Elect” at Apre Art House in Mumbai, MASH Young Artist’s Exhibition at India International Centre in New Delhi, “Threadsuns” at Gallerie Nvya in New Delhi, CIMA Awards Show in Kolkata, “Pulses” at Nehru Science Centre in Mumbai et cetera. He recently had his debut solo show "The Toothless Times" at Apre Art House, Mumbai from 13th Feb to 8th March, 2025. He is currently doing PhD at Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and also works as an Assistant Professor in Fashion & Lifestyle Accessories at National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT).
