Question from Skyscraper Aficionado (20:58, 2 January 2025)

Hi, I'm looking to create an article about an approved skyscraper in Milwaukee known as The Edison. However, there is already an article using the name "The Edison". Would "The Edison (Milwaukee)", "The Edison (Building)", or some other variation of the title work? --Skyscraper Aficionado (talk) 20:58, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

Hi Skyscraper Aficionado. Yes, something like The Edison (skyscraper) would work. Happy editing, C F A 21:32, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

Influencer page

Why did you move the “influencer” page to “social media influencer”? I don’t see any discussion happening and influencer is where things seemed to have landed after discussion to create the page. Can you please move it back? Nnev66 (talk) 20:18, 31 December 2024 (UTC)

Hi Nnev66. It was originally moved to Social media influencer by InfiniteNexus with the rationale "WP:BOLDly move recently created article. "Influencer" is short for "social media influencer"; we should be using the full, original, and more formal term.". A sockpuppet then requested it be moved back to Influencer. I reverted their request per WP:BMB. I've moved it back per your request here, but perhaps the next course of action should be a discussion on the talk page. Happy editing, C F A 20:33, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
Thanks @CFA for explaining what happened. I've created an Article name discussion topic on the Influencer talk page so hopefully a consensus can be reached about this. Nnev66 (talk) 23:33, 31 December 2024 (UTC)
@InfiniteNexus explained the rationale for his page move request so I’m now not opposed to the move. It’s apparently going to DYK soon, perhaps January 7, so it should be moved back to “Social media influencer”. Not sure if this has been initiated yet. Apologies for the confusion, I just didn’t understand what was going on. Nnev66 (talk) 22:38, 2 January 2025 (UTC)

Question from Royiswariii (03:38, 3 January 2025)

Hello, CFA! I'm consulting about citing a tweet. I'm skeptical about citing a tweet regarding awards and nominations because I'm planning to nominate a list of awards and nominations (which I am currently drafting). Some awards are only acknowledged on social media and not covered in news articles. For example, a boy band or girl group or individual singers etc. may have an award, nominations or honoree, not necessarily a popular one, but their record label acknowledges it through social medi, without any mention or covers in news articles. Is it okay to such sources if they are only from social media? --Royiswariii Talk! 03:38, 3 January 2025 (UTC)

Hi Royiswariii. The answer to this is generally no.
Per WP:ABOUTSELF (emphasis mine):
Self-published ... sources may be used as sources of information about themselves, usually in articles about themselves or their activities, ... so long as:
  1. The material is neither unduly self-serving nor an exceptional claim;
  2. It does not involve claims about third parties;
  3. It does not involve claims about events not directly related to the source;
  4. There is no reasonable doubt as to its authenticity; and
  5. The article is not based primarily on such sources.
If a singer's record label posts about the singer winning an award, it most likely involves claims about third parties and events not directly related to the source, so it would not be an appropriate use of a self-published source. Hope this helps, C F A 02:28, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
Thank you for this answer, CFA! Do you have an idea on Featured List, if a featured list can be nominated on WP:TFA? Royiswariii Talk! 03:24, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
Featured lists appear on the main page on Mondays and Fridays — see WP:TFL. C F A 04:07, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
CFA one more about my previous question, I see this [1] which is from news organization ABS-CBN, however, it was from Facebook page and considered it as reliable source per WP:TAMBAY/RS. It can be considered this on List of awards and nominations received by Bini? Royiswariii Talk! 04:40, 4 January 2025 (UTC)
I can't see the Facebook post, but as long as it is ABS-CBN's official account, it inherits its reliability. So yes it would be fine to use, though some people might prefer if you find a direct link to an article. C F A 18:26, 4 January 2025 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Editor's Barnstar
Hello CFA,

I don't have any relation to you, but I can tell how genuine you are. You continuously review my articles, and I appreciate your efforts. This little act may not be a massive deal to you, but you keep inspiring me. I have had times with editors with attitude problems, but you are incredible. Please accept my appreciation with immense regards. Cameremote (talk) I came from a remote place 16:00, 7 January 2025 (UTC)

Question

Hey CFA! Have a q. I came across this draft in AfC Draft:Trees in the Book of Mormon and saw that it's attributed as being translated from the polish wikipedia [2]. I noticed that it was translated using google translate and while it's not an exact copy and paste, there are some sections that do match. So was just wondering what the general rule of thumb is for approaching such articles? Thanks. Eucalyptusmint (talk) 02:03, 5 January 2025 (UTC)

Hi Eucalyptusmint. There's not much you can do, aside from tagging the article with {{rough translation}} and leaving the creator a note. I'd just assess it as I would any other draft. It's an OKA translation, which, in my experience, are usually fairly well done. C F A 02:32, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
Sounds good, ya overall it seemed pretty good but wasn't sure since, like I said, there are few paragraphs/sentences that match exactly. But, will do. Thank you! Eucalyptusmint (talk) 23:53, 7 January 2025 (UTC)

Please move Social media influencer back to Influencer so that I can commence a WP:RM discussion from the original location as protocol suggests.-TonyTheTiger (T / C / WP:FOUR / WP:CHICAGO / WP:WAWARD) 04:09, 7 January 2025 (UTC)

You should ask InfiniteNexus to revert their move. I'm not going to judge whether there's consensus for it. C F A 00:28, 8 January 2025 (UTC)

Question from Theemausoliam (06:50, 16 January 2025)

Hello! I was reading the article on the "Salmon problem" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Salmon_problem) and noticed that it had lots of issues. Some of these were simple typos but some seemed to be issues with translation from sources in German. I fixed a few of the minor typos, but I suspect the typos and larger translation issues happened at the same time. I wanted to reword some sentences to what I *think* is trying to be said, but since I don't speak German, I can't really confirm my suspicions. This is a very interesting article with lots of potential, but I don't know if I can fix all of its issues on my own.

Your draft article, Draft:Bidenisms

Hello, CFA. It has been over six months since you last edited the Articles for Creation submission or draft page you started, "Bidenisms".

In accordance with our policy that Wikipedia is not for the indefinite hosting of material deemed unsuitable for the encyclopedia mainspace, the draft has been nominated for deletion. If you plan on working on it further, or editing it to address the issues raised if it was declined, simply edit the submission and remove the {{db-afc}}, {{db-draft}}, or {{db-g13}} code.

If your submission has already been deleted by the time you get there, and you wish to retrieve it, you can request its undeletion by following the instructions at this link. An administrator will, in most cases, restore the submission so you can continue to work on it.

Impersonator

Hello, CFA,

If you visit WP:AN, you'll see you had a quite sneaky impersonator tonight. Any guesses on who this might have been? Liz Read! Talk! 04:09, 18 January 2025 (UTC)

It looks like the request for advanced permissions has been removed but Extraordinary Whit linked to this list so I guess having impersonators calling themselves your alternate account is nothing new. Liz Read! Talk! 05:07, 18 January 2025 (UTC)
No, definitely not anything new. BuickCenturyDriver was messing around yesterday (see CFA (sock) and CerEffAya), but I think CFA (public testing account) is the unrelated LTA (MAB?) that has been obsessed with me for the past few months. C F A 16:05, 18 January 2025 (UTC)

Notability of extinct species

Hi there, and thank you for your help with NPP! I wanted to reach out really quickly because I noticed you marked a few species articles reviewed that shouldn't have been (e.g., Jujubinus armatus). Typically, species are an easy review because of NSPECIES; however, this does not apply to extinct species, such as Jujubinus armatus. I only recently learned about this, so I'm not scolding by any means. Just wanted to let you know. :) Significa liberdade (she/her) (talk) 21:22, 22 January 2025 (UTC)

Technically, yes, NSPECIES does not apply to extinct species — in practice, however, they are always kept at AfD. They aren't included because there was a disagreement with some members of WP:PALEO on whether they should be merged up to the genus level. To ensure the proposal passed, they were excluded until a more firm consensus could be reached. I generally just mark as reviewed; other editors are free to merge up if they want. Hello CFA, I hope you are doing well. First of all, thank you for your translation attribution script. I have been using it to attribute translations, and it's amazing! The only issue is that it adds a duplicate {{Translated page}} template on the talk pages. Could you please fix this by adding a condition to check if the template has already been added, and if so, skip adding the duplicate? – DreamRimmer (talk) 16:40, 18 January 2025 (UTC)

Regarding the page moves you recently made

I am reaching out regarding the page moves you recently made (link). These were carried out at the request of a potential vandal, FromCzech, who has a history of nationalistically renaming stadiums under Polish names. As a result, there is now considerable inconsistency, which can be easily observed in the stadium categories (link). Would it still be possible to revert these changes, as contested? Alternatively, is there a formal process to challenge them? It seems highly problematic to introduce such modifications after many months without prior discussion, as it leads to unnecessary confusion and disrupts established naming conventions. Looking forward to your thoughts. Paradygmaty (talk) 17:27, 29 January 2025 (UTC)
