Swiss shields in London

[edit]

I'm watching 28 Days Later. At 12 minutes, when the protagonist picks up a newspaper, there is a display of the shields of the Swiss cantons. What's that doing there, in a London street? —Tamfang (talk) 01:44, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Swiss Centre, London. The cantons on the street sign are displayed in Leicester Square. [1] Knitsey (talk) 01:49, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks. —Tamfang (talk) 02:46, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Also, why does this DVD sometimes look like a transfer from tape?! —Tamfang (talk) 02:46, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Ha, that I can't help you with. If memory serves, the start of the film is POV from a handheld camera inside an animal testing facility? That was grainy footage. If the rest is like that, maybe your copy is pirated? Knitsey (talk) 02:53, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
What I noticed was not grain but fringes. They disappeared after leaving London, hmm. —Tamfang (talk) 06:13, 20 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The Islington Tribune of 11 April 2025 reports:

...in the Camden Sunday League ...players from Hackney Wednesday...lifted their third Frank Sheridan Senior Invitation Cup.

Why is the club called Hackney Wednesday? 2A02:6B67:D980:1E00:5124:BF88:2880:2730 (talk) 18:37, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I'm wondering if this is the same as Sheffield Wednesday? Wednesday afternoons (also known as half day closing) were traditionally used for leisure time. [2] Knitsey (talk) 18:52, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Shops Act 1911 for details about half day closing. Knitsey (talk) 18:57, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
